Detailed Job Description:
This position is responsible for preparing tax returns, processing and compiling financial data or records, calculating and processing payments, compiling tax information and documents, preparing account analysis work and issuing the resulting reports. Also, assists in the preparation of documents, reports etc. for various tax related audits. Reports to Senior Tax Accountant as well as Tax Manager

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

* Prepares non-income tax returns including the completion of documents/forms and payment vouchers. Gathers information/data from business departments, branches, and Group Companies for supporting documentation. Also, assists in the preparation of income tax returns. Specific tax returns include: federal, state and local income tax, federal excise tax, federal and state withholding, state and local sales, Canadian GST, commercial rent and property (for various state and local areas).

* Assists in the preparation and payment of the estimated federal, state and local income tax payments.

* Keeps detailed records of all tax payments issued for regular returns, estimated declarations and extensions.

* Prepares reports relating to state apportionment factors, i.e Sales, Payroll and Property by state. Compiles the required data and completes the calculations and reports. The results are used in the preparation of the state and local Franchise/Income tax returns.

* Prepares billings, payments and accruals with regard to affiliates, vendors and tax authorities, etc. Keeps tracks of these logs and accounts. Carries out other miscellaneous administrative tasks.

* Assists in the audit of tax filings. Researches results by contacting the originating departments, branches and Group Companies for documents requested by auditors or needed for the preparation of a response. Also, responds to notices received from the tax authorities.

* Assists in various tax reconciliation projects.

* Keeps up to date on tax law and regulation changes. Requires reading tax journals and publications, newsletters and newspapers, and the ability to apply what has been learned.

* Participates in projects as requested by managers.


REQUIRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

Knowledge Areas:
* Knowledge of tax laws, regulations and standards for preparation.

Technical / Communication Skills:
* Requires knowledge of the operation of a PC and software packages; specifically Microsoft Word and Excel and tax return packages such as OneSource, etc.
* Requires excellent mathematical and analysis skills.
* Requires accuracy and attention to detail.
* Should possess the ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment.

Experience:
* Minimum three (3) years' experience in corporate taxation or a combination of training and experience which indicates the ability to do the job.
